January 2017 Partner Newsletter

January 2017 Partner Network Newsletter

We are excited to begin the new year with you after a stellar 2016 for CMMI adoption.  For a full report on all the reasons 2016 was a good year for CMMI Institute and our Partners, be sure to check out the 2016 Annual Report to our Partners, available online here: http://partners.cmmiinstitute.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Annual-Report-to-Partners-2016.pdf.

We expect that 2017 will be another great year for our work together, but we know that in order to succeed, there’s something else we need—your input.  Yesterday, you received an invitation to participate in our Annual Partner Survey.  We want to hear from all of you—business points of contact, lead appraisers, instructors, EDMEs, and candidates—about what is working well for you, and how we can improve your experience as a CMMI Institute Partner.

The survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete, but the responses are crucial to us as we make plans for the coming year and years to come. Please take a few minutes to complete it here: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3281158/Annual-Partner-Survey-117

To start 2017, we made some changes to the format of these monthly newsletters.  Below you see that we’re starting with newsworthy items that are new this month, followed by event updates, with announcements, policies, resources, and reminders at the end of the newsletter.  We hope that this structure will help to keep you abreast of the most important things, while creating space to catch things you may have missed from prior months.  If you have feedback on the new format, we welcome your comments at partner@cmmiinstitute.com or in your survey response.

Cheers to a wonderful new year together!

Best,

Katie Tarara
Manager of Partner and Client Services

What’s New in January

C-Suite Level White Paper
We have released a new resource, a white paper targeted at executives entitled: Thriving in the Age of Disruption: Why capability is the key to staying ahead of rapidly evolving expectations. This white paper positions capability as central to managing organizations in the current, highly dynamic economy and it includes case studies and results from the online self-assessment tool. It will be syndicated in C-suite publications channels on the web and featured in Chief Executive online magazine.  The white paper is available in the Partner Resource Center (http://prc.cmmiinstitute.com) to be downloaded and used by you with your internal stakeholders, clients, colleagues, and prospects. We hope this is useful as a way to present CMMI to your executives or engage new and existing clients. We hope this is helpful help them communicate the benefits of building and improving capability in their organizations.

New Resource: CMMI and COBIT Tool
CMMI Institute is pleased to announce a new free tool connecting ISACA’s COBIT® 5 framework and CMMI® capability improvement models.  The COBIT 5/CMMI Practices Pathway Tool provides business IT practitioners with guidance on how to deliver additional value to stakeholders by strengthening process designs.  Users will be able to utilize organizational resources more effectively, measure performance more accurately, and lower costs through stronger governance.

As you know, ISACA acquired CMMI Institute in 2016 in anticipation of joining forces to help organizations optimize their technology, deliver greater value to stakeholders, and improve business performance.  The COBIT 5/CMMI Practices Pathway Tool is one of the ways in which the two organizations are working together.

The tool comes with a supplementary guide explaining how it can be best put to use. According to the guide, “the most relevant connection points between the CMMI and COBIT 5 models are practices. While there are absolutely synergies at higher levels, each individual practice is potentially an area where practitioners can derive benefit from harmonization of COBIT 5 and CMMI.”

Access the COBIT 5/CMMI Practices Pathway Tool now.  You can download the tool and instructions from the Partner Resource Center under “Resources” or “Administrative”.

Next Gen Update

For Your Information:
The working groups for the next generation of CMMI are in full swing developing the various pieces of the CMMI product suite. Pilot studies are underway to test the proposed appraisal method changes and the proposed implementation guidance. The Architecture and Plain Language teams are working hard to develop the informative material that supports the practice statements in the model.
Ways to Get Involved:
The next generation of CMMI’s Training and Certification Working Group recently started meeting for review cycles relevant to concepts and select introductory CMMI training deliverables that are currently in development. To join this group and participate in the review, you must be available for at least 2 hours each month to review training materials and you must be able to attend monthly check-in meetings (12:00-1:00 EDT on the last Friday of each month).  If you are interested in this opportunity, please reach out to partner@cmmiinstitute.com and we will connect you with the team.

What to Tell People:
Many Partners have reached out to us to ask what you can share about the next generation of CMMI at this time.  For now, we request that you limit your discussion of the next generation of CMMI to the questions and answers available in the Next Generation FAQ document.  This document is available in the Partner Resource Center, in the Next Generation Information Portal, and is available to all BPOCs and Certified Individuals (http://prc.cmmiinstitute.com).  As we move through 2017, we will be working to prepare you for the next generation of CMMI, and that means getting you ready to prepare your clients and colleagues.  This “What to Tell People” segment will be featured in every newsletter and webinar to keep you on the path of preparedness for the next generation of CMMI.

We’ll Waive your Appraisal Fee when you use a Candidate ATM
Several prospective candidate Lead Appraisers and Instructors need to gain experience as an Appraisal Team Member (ATM) before they can move ahead on their path to certification.  If you use one of the interested ATMs from our list, we will waive the $900 Appraisal Fee for the appraisal on which the Candidate ATM participates.

In order to participate in the program, the Lead Appraiser must contact us at partner@cmmiinstitute.com with information about the appraisal (dates, location, constellation, and maturity level) and we will connect you to some candidates who need ATM experience.

If you need ATM experience in order to add or renew a certification, you can be added to the list of interested ATMs.  Please send an email to partner@cmmiinstitute.com with your request.  Complete details of the program will be shared with interested parties.

CMMI Partner Status Validation:
CMMI Institute often receives inquiries regarding the status of CMMI Institute licensed Partner organizations and appraised organizations.  Please note that we avoid discussing the business concerns of one organization with another. Our response to such queries is to direct the inquirer to the Partner Directory or to the Published Appraisal Results Page.

We hope that you find these sites useful; any additional questions can be directed to partner@cmmiinstitute.com.
