Partner Network Newsletter 2018-01

We are excited to begin the new year with you after a stellar 2017 for CMMI adoption. For a full report on all the reasons 2017 was a good year for CMMI Institute and our Partners, be sure to check out the 2017 Annual Report to our Partners.

We expect that 2018 will be a momentous year for our work together, but we know that in order to succeed, there’s something else we need—your input. Recently you received an invitation to participate in our Annual Partner Survey. We want to hear from all of you—business points of contact, lead appraisers, instructors, EDMEs, and candidates—about what is working well for you and your business, and how we can improve your experience as a CMMI Institute Partner.

The survey is shorter than ever and should only take about 10-15 minutes to complete, but the responses are crucial to us as we make plans for the coming year and years to come. Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback here.

Cheers to a wonderful new year together!

Quality Tip: Multi-Model Appraisals

A multi-model appraisal can help an organization reduce the time and cost involved with appraising a wide scope of its processes. This month, our Quality Tip discusses some adjustments required of Lead Appraisers when planning, delivering, and reporting multi-model appraisals.

Reminder: Please Whitelist our New Email Service Provider

Due to the volume of automated appraisal emails that we send on a monthly basis we recently transitioned to a new, more robust email automation service provider for all of our mass communications.

What does this mean? Hopefully nothing, however during the transition we discovered that some of the automated appraisal emails weren’t being delivered even though they were being sent correctly. We’re monitoring this closely to resolve any of these issues as they occur.

What should you do? Ensure that is on your safe sender list or have your IT support whitelist that domain in your system. This will make sure that essential information about your appraisals is getting to you. And we’ll be using this system in the future to send Partner communications as well so it’s very important that all Partners are receiving messages from

Reminder: The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Introduces New Framework to Improve Patient Safety

According to, mismatched patient data is the third leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States, and the risk for errors grows with the increasing number of digital patient records. To address this serious issue, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health IT has introduced the Patient Data Demographic Quality (PDDQ) framework. The goal of this framework is to improve patient safety by helping organizations adopt a coordinated approach to achieve accurate, trusted patient data. The PDDQ’s content is derived from the Data Management Maturity (DMM)SM model, created by the CMMI® Institute as a comprehensive reference model of fundamental data management processes that constitute a graduated path to greater capabilities and maturity.

End-of-Course Survey Report Available

The January 2017 – December 2017 aggregate End-of-Course survey report is now available for instructors in the CMMI Partner Resource Center. The results show that, overwhelmingly, students are finding significant value (+52 NPS with over 98% positive rating) in CMMI courses. You will find the data by clicking into the “Survey Results” folder under your instructor role. Here’s the link to the PRC:

As a reminder, you should be auto-receiving your individual survey results each time a student submits feedback for you. (The individual feedback messages will come from SurveyGizmo if you want to filter to a specific folder.)

Reminder: Additional Resources to Prepare your Clients

Now that the first CMMI V2.0 courses have finished, the word is getting out about CMMI V2.0. We’re glad that you and others want to share the excitement about the coming improvements to the model. If you plan to do more of this, we ask that you use these guidelines:

  • When talking about the release timeline, you can share that CMMI V2.0 will be launched in March 2018 with the CMMI for Development model, updated appraisal method, new training courses, and guides for adoption.
  • Focus on the improvements and new value provided in CMMI V2.0. You may want to use the PowerPoint slides available here:
  • For organizations currently using CMMI for Development V1.3 that want to begin planning for their transition to CMMI for Development V2.0, you may download and share the PDF of the draft outline of the model. CMMI_V2.0_Outline_For_Partners to Share

This is still a draft version as the final disposition of comments has not been completed. Please note that you may not create derivative materials using the CMMI V2.0 content and you may not point your clients to Partner-only materials. Please download and share this file, do not share the link with your clients.

  • If you are talking about CMMI V2.0 in social media, please use the hashtag #CMMI2dot0 (Including the “.” In V2.0 will break the hashtag.)
  • You can point interested parties to the new CMMI V2.0 landing page to sign up for updates. We’ll share public updates with that list as we move toward launch. Communications sent to this list will also go to Partners, so you don’t need to sign up to get the messages.

Do you need ATMs for an upcoming appraisal? Or are you looking for an opportunity to serve as an ATM?

Several prospective candidate lead appraisers and instructors need to gain experience as appraisal team members (ATMs) before they can move ahead on their path to certification. If you use one of the interested ATMs from our list, we will waive the $900 appraisal fee for the appraisal on which the ATM participates. To participate in the program, the lead appraiser must contact us at with information about the appraisal (dates, location, constellation, and maturity level) and we will connect you to some candidates who need ATM experience.
