September 2017 Partner Network Newsletter

Did you know that Fortune 500 companies in 18 different industry segments are using CMMI to improve performance on at least one project? For the most recent maturity profile, CMMI Institute compared the 2017 list of Fortune 500 companies with active appraisals in PARS, and the results are stunning!

In Aerospace and Defense, 9 of 12 organizations have organizational units that have earned CMMI maturity levels, and all 5 of the sector’s Fortune Most Admired companies are CMMI users. Similarly, in Information Technology Services, 5 of 7 organizations have maturity levels and all 3 that are among Fortune’s Most Admired in the sector use CMMI. There’s more information in the most recent Maturity Profile.

We are proud that CMMI enables great performance in companies all over the world, and we are deeply grateful for your work that makes that possible. Please share the story of CMMI and the Fortune 500 with your clients and colleagues!

Annual SCAMPI Appraisal Limit Raised to 16 for 2017 Pilot Program

At the request of the Partner Advisory Board, the CMMI Institute Partner Services and Quality teams have agreed to raise the total number of SCAMPI A appraisals permitted per Lead Appraiser to 16 for 2017. This pilot program will allow us to study and understand any impact on quality due to the higher total number of appraisals allowed.

To participate in this pilot, a Lead Appraiser will register additional appraisals as normal. CMMI Institute Quality Analysts will permit the additional appraisals to be set up and submitted for review.

A Lead Appraiser should not plan to deliver more than 4 appraisals in 60 days. However, CMMI Institute understands that on occasion, circumstances occur that are beyond the control of the Lead Appraiser and are made more difficult due to the 4-in-60-day rule. In these limited cases, CMMI Institute wants to help the Lead Appraiser and their client to be successful, and is willing to work with the Lead Appraiser to find a potential solution. If you have questions about the 16 appraisals per year pilot, please contact

Quality Tip: APR Delivery

In recent months, the CMMI Institute has reviewed multiple cases in which an Action Plan Reappraisal (APR) was recommended to the sponsor, despite the presence of systemic weaknesses. This month’s Quality Tip discusses the delivery of an APR, and the circumstances in which it is a viable option for addressing an organizational unit’s weaknesses.

Do you need ATMs for an upcoming appraisal? Or are you looking for an opportunity to serve as an ATM?

Several prospective candidate lead appraisers and instructors need to gain experience as appraisal team members (ATMs) before they can move ahead on their path to certification.  If you use one of the interested ATMs from our list, we will waive the $900 appraisal fee for the appraisal on which the ATM participates.
